Arsenal receive major Premier League title boost as huge Liverpool blow emerges

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson is reportedly set to be sidelined until after the November international break due to injury. The news is a boost to Arsenal, who currently sit two points behind Arne Slot's league leaders in the Premier League table.

Slot confirmed on Tuesday that the Brazilian shot-stopper will miss this Saturday's match against Chelsea following an injury sustained in Turkey. Giorgi Mamardashvili, the former Valencia keeper, is expected to step up for his Premier League debut, having replaced Alisson during the midweek clash with Galatasaray.

And according to the Athletic, Alisson underwent a scan on Thursday which revealed a hamstring injury that could see him miss several crucial matches, including those against Manchester United, Real Madrid and Manchester City in the coming weeks.

The report further states thatLiverpool are awaiting a full prognosis within the next 24-48 hours, with Slot poised to provide an update on Alisson's condition during his pre-match press conference on Friday morning.

"If one of our players is on the floor nine times out of 10 I fear the worst and with the worst I mean he cannot continue and that is what happened with Alisson," Slot shared at a press conference following Tuesday's Champions League defeat.

"He will not be able to play Saturday that is 99.9 per cent (certain), although I think it is 100%."

In recent seasons, Alisson has been plagued by injuries. During the 2024-25 campaign, the keeper was absent from 26 games for both club and country due to hamstring injuries, while a thigh problem and concussion resulted in additional time off the pitch.

Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher praised the 'outstanding' performance of the goalkeeper before his unfortunate injury.

"What happens here, he [Konate] goes through Osimhen, the goalkeeper [Alisson] again, who was outstanding, saved another one vs one, gets injured," he said.

"I don't know what he's done, but the injury comes from Konate again; this is happening every game."

Arsenal will be looking to take advantage when they host West Ham United on Saturday in their final game before the October international break.
