Man Utd WhatsApp group brutally laughed at team-mate who broke down in tears

Rio Ferdinand couldn't hold in his laughter after looking back at a moment when former team-mate Nani broke down in tears on the pitch. And it seemed he wasn't the only one, as a picture of the incident was shared in their private United chat which was met with plenty of chuckles from the group.

Former Portugal winger Nani appeared on latest episode, co-hosted by internet personality Joel Beya, as they discussed all things both past and present. At one point, Ferdinand was discussing how he had put a message in their group chat to ask his ex-team-mates if they had any questions for the 38-year-old - but not without having a quick dig at him first.

explained: "I said in the group that Nani is coming on the podcast, if anyone has any questions for him." But Beya was quick to criticise the ex-defender for leaving an important part of the story out, adding: "You didn't say what you put in the group first."

The 46-year-old couldn't hold in his giggles as he said: "Nani, I put the picture in the group of you at Anfield, when he was crying. Youngy just text back, 'Why did Nani cry?'"

The picture Ferdinand was referring to - and what current star Ashley Young was questioning - depicts Nani on the pitch at Anfield, crying after he had been dealt a serious blow by former star .

During a rare United defeat in March 2011, when they were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool thanks to a Dirk Kuyt hat-trick, Carragher barrelled into Nani in a late tackle that left him with a gash on his leg.

However, Nani's reaction to the challenge was deemed controversial after he got up to complain to the referee about the nature of the tackle, only to end up on the floor again - where he was stretchered off in tears.

During an interview with the Guardian days after the match, he admitted that he was emotional because he believed the challenge had ended his season. At the time, Nani said: "When I saw my leg for the first time, I thought my season was finished.

"That is why I was crying. Afterwards, the doctor saw my leg and said I had been lucky because it just needed stitches and I would be out for two or three weeks. He is surprised that I could recover even quicker."

However, in an earlier episode of his podcast, Ferdinand revealed that then-United boss Sir was less than impressed with Nani's antics - and even claimed that he hoped his leg was "f****** broken" after the dramatic reaction on the pitch.

Ferdinand said: "But I’m being real. This is a true story. After that, Ferguson gave him two weeks off because he needed to recover. In that team we didn’t care, we were ready to kill him.

"And even Ferguson [said]: ‘I hope your leg is f***ing broke! I really hope your leg is broke!’ He was killing Nani for always falling on the floor. It was like, you can’t be a United player and be doing that."

After the hilarity ended on the most recent episode, Ferdinand praised the nature of the ex-United players he surrounded himself with in his playing days, and that nobody took little jokes and jibes seriously.

He added: "This is what I used to love about it though. Nobody took it bad, look at the Nani days, we would just be laughing like, everyday, everyone in the training ground laughing - then when you get on the pitch, then we're serious."
