e-PAN Scam alert: Cyber criminals have now started cheating people in the name of downloading e-PAN. This is a new and dangerous cyber fraud in which the user is asked to click on a link by sending a fake email. Once you click on the link, your confidential information and bank details may be in danger.

In this scam, it is usually shown that this email has come from a government department, whereas in reality the email is completely fake. PIB Fact Check has also confirmed this fraud and advised people to be cautious.

What are phishing mails and how to avoid them?

Phishing mails are fake emails that look like real ones, but their purpose is to steal your personal information. This information is later used to steal your savings.

How to identify phishing mails:

1. The email ID does not seem to be official.

2. There is a suspicious link in the mail.

3. Emergency-like language is used in the mail, such as "download immediately", "important information" etc.

4. You are asked to download an attachment.

Safety measures

The most important thing for cyber security is that you click on any link only if it is completely reliable. If you get a suspicious email, mark it as spam or report it immediately. Avoid answering calls, emails or messages from unknown numbers. Be sure to adopt security measures like antivirus and firewall in your device.

The right way to download an e-PAN card

If you want to download e-PAN card, then there are only two official websites for this - NSDL and UTIITSL. You should go to the same website that has issued your PAN card. By logging in there, you can download your e-PAN safely. Keep in mind that PAN card is a sensitive document, and if its information is leaked, you may have to suffer huge financial loss.

What warning has been given by the government?

The government's official body PIB Fact Check has tweeted that the e-mails being sent in the name of e-PAN are completely fake. People have been urged not to trust such mails nor click on the link. This mail can install malware in your mobile or computer, which can give access to bank details.
