Sunny Deol in his prime was a huge star in Bollywood. Now he is slowly coming back to the limelight with some big hits but in the early 1990s and late 1980s, he was second to none as the romantic action hero. In fact, his journey which began over four decades ago, started with commercial success.
What Was the Film?
The name of the film was Betaab and it also starred another newcomer called Amrita Singh. Shammi Kapoor and Prem Chopra were also part of the cast. Betaab was a huge hit and it made Sunny an overnight sensation in Bollywood. Dharmendra’s son was now carrying forward his father’s legacy. Over a decade later, his other son Bobby too would enter Bollywood, but that was to come later.

Who ‘Punched’ Sunny?
But did you know Sunny got ‘punched’ on the sets of his hit debut by another Bollywood legend? Dharmendra shared a cherished memory on his Instagram about how Sunny got a playful punch. Who was the puncher? It was none other than the legend himself, Dilip Kumar. Dharmendra even shared a photo of the incident and Sunny’s smile shows that he was enjoying the experience.
"Dalip saheb ka pyaar bhara duayen dete haath Sunny ko film BETAB ke mahurat par hi naseeb ho gaya tha," Dharmendra wrote. (Dalip sir’s punch full of love was received by Sunny during the mahurat of Betab)

Betaab was one of the biggest hits of 1983. It was a loose adaptation of William Shakespeare’s The Taming Of The Shrew. It was remade in Telugu as Samrat with Ramesh Babu as the hero and in Kannada as Karthik with Karthik Shetty playing the lead.
What’s Next?
Sunny was last seen in action in Jaat which has done well in the box office. He will next be seen in Lahore 1947. Big projects such as Border 2, Ramayana: Part 1, Safar and Jaat 2 are also in the works. He is closing in on 70 but is not stopping anytime soon.
