Union Minister and BJP National President JP Nadda on Wednesday spoke strongly in the Rajya Sabha during a discussion on Operation Sindoor, praising Indian security forces and taking sharp digs at the Opposition.
“After 2014, terrorist attacks have almost stopped across the country, except in Jammu and Kashmir,” Nadda said.
He paid tribute to the jawans and condemned the recent Pahalgam terror attack, calling it a national tragedy.
“No amount of condemnation is enough. We lost 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali citizen in the incident,” he added.
Taking a sharp swipe at the Opposition, Nadda remarked, “Those questioning us over Pahalgam should reflect on their own record. It’s like a criminal asking the judge, ‘Why was I punished?’”
He accused the Congress-led UPA government (2004–2014) of inaction in the face of multiple major terror attacks.
“There was no decisive action after the 2005 Delhi serial blasts, 2006 Varanasi bombing, or Mumbai train attacks. Yet, trade and tourism with Pakistan continued uninterrupted.”
He recalled the 2005 Shramjeevi Express bombing by Harkat-ul-Jihad in Jaunpur, which killed 14 and injured over 60.
“What did the government do then? Nothing.”
Nadda also attacked the UPA for its “appeasement policy.”
“After the 2008 Jaipur bombings, the Congress government moved ahead with ‘confidence-building measures’ with Pakistan and even granted triple-entry permits to cross the LoC,” he said.
In a biting remark, he added, “Woh hume goliyon se bhunte rahe, aur hum unko biryani khilane chale (They kept firing bullets at us, and we went to serve them biryani).”
He also recalled the 2007 serial bomb blasts in Lucknow, Ayodhya, and Varanasi, attributed to Harkat-ul-Jihad and Indian Mujahideen.
“Despite these attacks, on 1st October 2007, you allowed goods carriers to cross the Wagah and Attari borders. That too was handed out like a bonus.”
Highlighting an incident from 2008, he said, “Shahabuddin, a life convict and terrorist involved in a CRPF camp attack in Rampur, was ordered to be released by the UP government. Thankfully, the Allahabad High Court blocked it. This shows how far appeasement went.”
Nadda said, “We had the same Army and police back then too. What was missing was political will. Even at the 2009 SCO Summit, there was no mention of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.”
He urged the Opposition to stop playing politics over national security and instead introspect on their own track record.
