Weather today: heavy rains and humidity impact Delhi and Mumbai

Weather today, heavy rainfall and changing weather patterns are affecting major cities in India, including Delhi and Mumbai, as both regions experience intermittent showers and varying temperature conditions. Residents are advised to prepare for wet weather, with alerts issued in several areas and caution recommended during travel. This report provides the latest updates and forecasts for both cities to help individuals plan accordingly.


Mumbai rains

Mumbai and several parts of Maharashtra were impacted by heavy rainfall on Saturday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri, urging residents to avoid non-essential travel. An orange alert is active for Nashik, Pune, Satara, Jalgaon, and Gadchiroli, while a yellow alert covers Kolhapur, Amravati, Wardha, and Nagpur.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) advised the public to stay indoors unless necessary.

Rainfall impacts and alerts across Mumbai

Severe waterlogging has been reported in areas such as Andheri Subway, Milan Subway, Kurla, Chembur, SCLR Bridge, Gandhi Market, and Kings Circle. Vehicles were seen navigating flooded streets, especially near Gandhi Market.

A landslide at Jankalyan Society, Varsha Nagar, Vikhroli Park Site (West), resulted in two deaths and two injuries, according to BMC reports.

Between 1 AM and 4 AM on August 16, heavy rainfall hit both western and eastern suburbs. Marol Fire Station recorded 207 mm in the west, while Vikhroli and Ghatkopar experienced significant rain in the east.

IMD forecasts very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall for Mumbai on Saturday, with daytime temperatures around 29°C and nighttime lows near 24°C. In the 24 hours ending at 8:30 AM on Friday, Colaba received 45.2 mm of rain, and Santacruz logged 11.5 mm.

Continued rainfall expected across Maharashtra

Rainfall is predicted to intensify in Palghar from Sunday through August 19. The persistent rain is linked to a low-pressure area forming in the Bay of Bengal near north Andhra Pradesh, sustaining wet conditions across Maharashtra.

For August 16, moderate to heavy rain is expected over most parts of Konkan-Goa, with moderate rain or thundershowers likely across Marathwada. Light to moderate rain is forecast for South Madhya Maharashtra, with isolated showers possible in North Madhya Maharashtra.

Delhi rains

Delhi is expected to experience temperatures ranging from 28.5°C to 35.5°C on August 16, 2025, with a 79% chance of patchy rain and 61% humidity. Increasing cloud cover throughout the day may result in afternoon and evening showers. Winds are forecast to reach up to 12.6 km/h, providing some relief from the heat. The average temperature will be around 31.7°C.
