Dharmendra Family: It's no small feat to survive in Hindi cinema for 65 years. But Dharmendra is a superstar who has enjoyed a long career in Hindi cinema. In December 2025, he will be seen in "Ekkis" with Agastya Nanda. He acted in over 300 films in his career and earned immense fame. But now he will be gone. Dharmendra passed away at the age of 90.
But today, we will not talk about this superstar's career, but about his family, the family from which he emerged and the family that now resides in the Hindi industry and the USA.
Now let's turn to Dharmendra's brother, Ajit Singh Deol. Like Dharmendra, he also tried his luck in films, but he didn't achieve the same wealth and fame. He worked in films like Pratigya, Meherbani, Veerta, and Putt Jatt Da. Ajit Singh's son, Abhay Deol, has acted in numerous films. Similarly, Dharmendra also had a cousin, Virendra Singh Deol, who achieved considerable fame in Punjabi cinema.
Dharmendra was born on December 8, 1935, in Punjab, in the village of Nasrali in Ludhiana district, as Dharam Singh Deol. He comes from a Jat Sikh family. His father, Kewal Kishan Singh Deol, was a headmaster at a government school, while his mother, Satwant Kaur, was deeply religious.
Now, let's turn to Dharmendra's married life. When he was 19, he married Prakash Kaur. At that time, he was neither a hero nor an actor. Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur had four children: two sons and two daughters: Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Vijeta, and Ajita.
Sunny Deol has two sons, Karan and Rajveer. Bobby Deol also has two sons. Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur's two daughters, Vijeta and Ajita, have always remained away from the limelight. Vijeta has a son and a daughter, and Ajita has two daughters.
Speaking of Dharmendra's daughters-in-law, Sunny Deol is married to Pooja Deol, whose real name is Linda Deol. She is Anglo-Indian. Bobby Deol married Tanya Ahuja in 1996, a businesswoman. They have two sons, Aryaman and Dharam. Dharmendra's grandson, Karan Deol (Sunny Deol's son), is also married. In 2023, he married his girlfriend, Disha Acharya.
Now, let's turn to Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur's daughters. Ajita and Vijeta have never appeared in films or in front of the camera. Ajita is a teacher by profession. Her husband, Kiran Chaudhary, is an Indian-American dentist. The family lives in California, USA. They have two daughters, Nikita and Priyanka. Vijeta is married to Vivek Gill. They have a son, Sahil, and a daughter, Prerna. Reports claim that Vijeta lives in Delhi, away from the limelight.
Now let's turn to Dharmendra's second marriage. Dharmendra and Hema Malini fell in love in the film industry. Dharmendra was already married and the father of four children. However, Dharmendra refused to divorce his first wife. It is said that for his second marriage, Dharmendra converted to Islam and married her. However, in 2004, he dismissed such reports as mere rumors.
Hema Malini and Dharmendra also had two daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. While Dharmendra did not allow Prakash Kaur's daughters to enter films, Hema made her daughters actresses. It's a different matter that neither of them achieved the same success as their parents.
Esha Deol was married to Bharat Takhtani, but they later divorced. They have two daughters. Ahana's husband is Vaibhav Vohra. They have three children: two twin daughters and a son. Thus, Dharmendra has a total of 13 grandchildren. He has two daughters-in-law and one granddaughter.
