Mumbai: A 25-year-old woman from Jogeshwari West was allegedly harassed by a digital loan app company, which circulated morphed nude images of her to her family and friends, despite her repaying more than the amount she had borrowed.

As per the police, the woman, a resident of Kranti Nagar in Jogeshwari West, said she was in urgent need of money when she saw an advertisement for a mobile application named "Cash Loan" on Instagram. On July 20, she downloaded the app and submitted her personal details, including her Aadhaar card and bank account information, as part of the registration process, as reported by NDTV.

According to police officials, the woman had applied for a loan of Rs 2,000 but received only Rs 1,300 for a six-day tenure. However, before the loan term expired, she began receiving threatening calls from an individual claiming to be associated with the loan company. The caller allegedly told her that if she failed to repay the money immediately, he would post obscene photos of her on social media platforms.

Out of fear, the woman transferred Rs 1,000 twice through a payment app to a person identified as “Sandesh Kumar.” But despite the payment, just an hour later, her aunt contacted her to inform her that she had received a morphed nude photo of the woman on WhatsApp from an unknown number.

"The accused allegedly threatened to tarnish the woman’s reputation," said an officer, quoting the victim’s complaint, as reported. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed, and an investigation is currently underway.
