The Thane Nagar Police have launched a manhunt for two individuals, including a woman, who allegedly attacked former Shiv Sena corporator Sudhir Kokate in Thane over an old enmity. Fortunately, Kokate escaped unhurt, while another person, Gajanan Mahatre, sustained injuries.
The incident took place opposite the Navratri office in Tembhi Naka, Thane, on May 19 at around 10:30 PM. Kokate was seated outside the office with two people when a man with his face covered by a handkerchief attacked them with a sharp object. The entire incident was captured on nearby CCTV cameras and has since gone viral on social media.
According to the police, Gajanan Mahatre, who was sitting with Kokate at the time, suffered injuries to his hand and waist. He was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment and was later discharged. Kokate, however, remained unharmed.
The female accused has been identified as Afrin Khan. She and her male companion reportedly confronted Kokate at his office and began a heated argument over a previous dispute. Shortly afterward, the masked man launched the attack using a sharp weapon.
An FIR has been registered based on Kokate’s complaint under sections 118(2), 351(3), 49, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act, at the Thane Nagar Police Station.
A police source from Thane Nagar Police Station said, “We have formed a team to apprehend the accused. We will arrest them very soon.”
