Donald Trump made a bizarre claim in an explosive interview following the first 100 days into his second term .
The Republican firebrand sat down with NBC News Meet The Press host Kristen Welker to discuss a range of topics, including his assessment of the first 100 days of his administration. mentioned a US invasion of Greenland "could happen," adding the country needs the Danish territory "very badly."
He said: "I don’t rule it out. I don’t say I’m going to do it, but I don’t rule out anything. No, not there. We need Greenland very badly. Greenland is a very small amount of people, which we’ll take care of, and we’ll cherish them, and all of that. But we need that for international security."

While the interview covered several topics, from deportations to tariffs, compared his treatment by legal officials in the US to notorious Chicago mobster .
"I have been investigated more than more than any person in the history of the United States of America," Trump said. "I've been investigated more than the late great, as they say at my rallies, Alphonse (Al) Capone. Alphonse Capone was a nasty man.
"He was a - the highest level gangster. And I have been investigated more than Al Capone, more than anybody. These people are evil people. And I won. And I'll tell you what. All I want to happen is for the Department of Justice and the FBI.
"Pam (Bondi) is great and Kash (Patel) is great. I think they're two great people. But they're their own people. They want to do a fantastic job. And all I want to do and all I want to ask for is that they be allowed to do their job."
Trump is correct that he has been investigated more than many political figures in the US and is currently the only president in the country's history to have been impeached twice, although he was acquitted by the Senate on both occasions. His second impeachment came in the aftermath of the riot at the Capitol building in Washington D.C. in January 2021 where his supporters stormed the building, damaged it and clashed with police.
The Republican was also subject to criminal cases in various US states and was found guilty of 34 charges in a scheme to illegally influence the 2016 election via a hush money payment to an adult film star who claimed they had sex. The investigation also launched an investigation into the president during his first term, although it found insufficient evidence of criminal conspiracy collusion with Russian officials.
But Trump is not the only president to have been impeached or investigated. Both Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton, in 1868 and 1998 respectively were also impeached and were acquitted. Disgraced President Richard Nixon was also investigated following the Watergate Scandal, although he resigned before impeachment proceedings could be brought against him.
While Trump's claims are strong in regard to US presidents, many figures in the country's history have been subject to lengthy investigations with substantial jail time. Crime boss John Gotti, a violent New York mobster, was in and out of jail several times in his early career before he became a "made man" for the Gambino family.
A wide-reaching investigation into Gotti concluded in 1992 with him being convicted on 13 counts, including multiple murder. His convicted marked the end of one of the largest criminal investigations into a single person, although larger police operations have taken thousands of man hours.
Ironically, the largest criminal investigation in US history is widely considered to be the one into the riot at the Capitol due to the vast numbers of people involved. Nearly 1,200 people had been charged in connection with their involvement as of 2024. But Trump granted clemency to more than 1,500 people convicted of offenses, including those who attacked police officers.
