He was pictured giving the camera a thumbs-up from the hospital bed. And now, it has been revealed the 55-year-old was diagnosed with a condition after he started having a pain in his neck. His pal Terry, who is also an actor, said Nick's girlfriend urged him to get the pain in his neck checked out but he insisted on using deep heat.

When he finally went to the doctors, he was told he needed an emergency operation as his condition was 'life-threatening'.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels star Nick damaged his neck and it ended up affecting his spinal cord as well as "some of the thing that operates your speech and your legs".

Speaking to , Terry added: "He's recovering but [doctors] basically said he might never walk or talk again, which was traumatic. He's not in the best of health, but when he came out of the operation I was like 'thank God' because I think he'd decided he'd rather not walk or talk than die."

Doctors operated on Nick by cutting into his spine and removing four bones from his neck, Terry added to the publication. They also replaced the bones with artificial bone.

Nick's podcast co-host Terry confirmed Nick and his family were happy for him to share the health update with fans after what seems to have been a successful surgery.

Thankfully, Nick is now 'speaking and shuffling around' as he recovers from the major surgery.

Terry first shared the news of Nick's surgery on social media with the picture of Nick lying in a hospital bed. Along with the photo, he said: "News update for you all on Nick Moran.

"He’s had major surgery and is recovering in the ICU he’s giving us the thumbs up but still needs your support, prayers & love. Let’s pray he fully recovers and is be back to normal soon."

He added: "We did a fantastic podcast together a few months back. Nick is very private and isn’t on social media he did ours as an exclusive & you can all tune in to watch us together this Sunday at 6pm.

"If there are any further updates on Nick I will let you all know in the live chat this coming Sunday."
