Prince William shocked Schitt’s Creek actor Eugene Levy when he arrived to show him around Windsor Castle for his documentary series riding an electric scooter.
Eugene, 78, was invited to meet William in the quadrangle at 10am sharp on February 1 in order to film an episode of his AppleTV+ documentary series The Reluctant Traveler.
He was delighted to receive a personal invitation for a “private tour” from the Prince of Wales, hand-delivered to the swanky Royal Suite in The Goring Hotel, where he is staying.

When he arrives in Windsor the following morning - wearing dog-walking clothes as requested - he is initially surprised that the Prince is late to their meeting. “I do know he’s not prompt….and don’t think I won’t be bringing that up,” he laughed.
But he is staggered when, a few minutes later, the Prince of Wales zooms through the archway on a battery-powered scooter which makes light work of the gravel.
Once the formal introductions are over, Eugene tells him: “This is not what I was expecting. This is your mode of transportation?” And William explained: “It is round here. It gets around quite nicely around here, it’s quite fun.”
He tells Eugene that while his father, King Charles III, spends much of his time at Windsor Castle with Queen Camilla, he and his wife Catherine and their three children George, Charlotte and Louis live nearby rather than within the grounds. “We don’t actually live in the castle itself. But we come and use the castle for work and for meetings, and to see people,” William says to the actor, who has already decided not to mention the tardy time-keeping.
But happy to own his shortcomings, William explained: “I’m always late so I thought this was the way to keep my meetings on time.” And he adds: “I’m still regularly late, Eugene, anyway.”
It turns out that, on this particular morning - which is grey and drizzly and very “English” Eugene feels - William has a good reason for keeping the TV team waiting.
“I have managed to get myself a puncture this morning, which is quite amusing. That’s why I was going so slowly up the road.”
The funny scene will be shown in the UK on Friday as the fourth episode in the third series of Levy’s Apple TV+ show, in which he tries to tick off bucket list travel experiences.
Having come to visit London, the actor is delighted to be taken around the castle and its grounds, before retiring to a local pub for a pint and more chat with the future monarch.
