Former owner Simon Jordan has admitted to misjudging 's Hollywood owners and the scale of their ambition. The presenter has aimed several digs at actors and since they bought the Welsh club in 2021.
Despite the Red Dragons enjoying huge success under the A-listers' stewardship, has been notoriously stingy with praise for them. During an on-air discussion in March last year, the outspoken 57-year-old mocked the disparity in fame between Reynolds, well-known for the Deadpool series of movies, and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia co-creator McElhenney.
He also cast doubt over their long-term dedication to Wrexham, who are currently second in . Jordan previously said: "They [Wrexham] have got huge interest because a lot of people look at Ryan Reynolds. The other fella, he carries his bag. His remarks prompted co-host Jim White to suggest Jordan was envious of the actors, and led to a backlash from Wrexham's devoted supporters.
However, Jordan has now performed a U-turn after hailing the club's rapid rise from the National League to the automatic promotion spots in the third tier, backing them to reach the within the next few years.
Speaking with White on their talkSPORT show on Wednesday this week, he said: "The thing about Wrexham is that I sort of pooh-poohed it back in the day because I thought you're not going to get the traction. When it comes to putting your hands in your pockets, if you do get up to the Championship, this is where the serious dough starts to come in.
"[I thought] we'll see the appetite of you Hollywood guys, who normally use other people's money rather than your own. But in this instance, the traction that these guys have got is so enormous that you're seeing bloody Wrexham badges on Marvel superheroes inside mainstream films.
"The traction they're getting is so significant with the commercial investments and the money that's behind Wrexham to build a new stand."
Commenting on the prospects of Wrexham and Birmingham City, who confirmed promotion to the Championship with a win over Peterborough on Tuesday evening, he added: "I would not be surprised if either one of these clubs ends up in the Premier League in the next two or three years."
Wrexham are currently three points ahead of rivals Wycombe Wanderers in the battle for automatic promotion. Parkinson's side travel to Wigan Athletic on Saturday as their bid to reach the Championship continues.
