Paneer Thecha Recipe: Paneer Thecha is a spicy and flavourful Maharashtrian dish that combines the richness of paneer (Indian cottage cheese) with the pungent flavours of green chillies, garlic and crushed peanuts. Traditionally, thecha is a dry chutney made by grinding chillies and garlic, often served as a spicy side dish with bhakri or roti. In this unique twist, paneer is added to make it more nutritious and filling, making it a great side dish or a quick meal. It is easy to make, rich in protein and full of flavour, making it a perfect choice for spice lovers looking for something different.
Ingredients for making Paneer Thecha
- Paneer – 200 grams (crumbled or grated)
- Green chillies – 6 to 8 (according to taste)
- Garlic – 8 to 10 cloves
- Roasted peanuts – 2 tablespoons (coarsely crushed)
- Oil – 2 tbsp (preferably peanut or mustard oil)
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- Salt – as per taste
- Coriander leaves – 1 tablespoon (chopped, optional)
- Lemon juice – 1 tsp (optional, for tartness)
How to prepare it
- Heat oil in a pan on medium flame.
- Add cumin seeds and let them crackle.
- Add green chillies and garlic cloves. Saute for 2-3 minutes until the garlic turns golden and aromatic.
- Add crushed peanuts and fry for 1-2 minutes.
- Add crumbled paneer and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes until everything is well combined and heated through.
- Switch off the flame. Add lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves, if using.
- Serve hot with chapati, bhakri or paratha.
