In a startling incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district, a man who had been living as a priest and performing rituals in a local temple was recently exposed to be someone entirely different. Known in the village as ‘Krishna,’ the man was revealed to be Mohammad Kasim, the son of a Muslim cleric from Bihar. For over a year, he had been conducting religious ceremonies, reading Sanskrit shlokas, and even telling women’s fortunes at a Shiva temple in Dadri village.
20 Years in Disguise, New Identity as ‘Krishna’According to police interrogation, Kasim had been masquerading as a Hindu sadhu for nearly two decades. He claimed that he adopted Hinduism years ago and had lived among saints and monks, learning the scriptures and rituals of the faith. He reportedly started this journey in Delhi, where he learned puja practices and Sanskrit chants. To reinforce his new identity, he tattooed the name "Krishna" on his hand and declared himself the son of “Santosh” instead of “Mohammad Abbas.”
Using this identity, he managed to gain entry into multiple temples over the years. In the Shiva temple in Dadri, he had established himself as a full-time priest for the last year, performing daily rituals and astrology-like palm readings — particularly for women.
Suspicion Grows, Mob Detains and Beats HimThe charade came to an end when a few villagers became suspicious of his activities. His reluctance to provide proper identification, like an Aadhaar card, fueled their doubts. When pressed further, Kasim tried to dodge their questions, leading to an angry mob detaining and physically assaulting him. Local police arrived just in time to rescue him from the mob and took him into custody for questioning.
Inspector Suman Kumar Singh of Daurala Police Station confirmed that the man is Mohammad Kasim, a resident of Koli Raipur village in Sitamarhi, Bihar. His identity is being officially verified through fingerprint scanning since he failed to produce any valid documents. Bihar Police has also been informed.
Only Read Women’s Palms: Rise in Female Visitors at TempleKasim’s supposed spiritual services had been attracting significant attention, especially from women. Villagers mentioned that he exclusively read the palms of women and predicted their future, which led to a surge in female devotees at the temple. His fluency in religious discourse, accurate festival date predictions, and convincing rituals had kept suspicion at bay for quite some time.
A Story Right Out of a Movie: Real-Life ‘Jolly LLB’ Plot? The situation has uncanny similarities with a subplot from the Bollywood film Jolly LLB, where a terrorist takes on a Hindu priest’s identity to hide in a temple. Just like the film’s character, Kasim used chants, religious rituals, and a deep understanding of scripture to maintain his deception. His performance was so authentic that many villagers had complete faith in him for over a year.
Police File Case, Intelligence Agencies Begin InvestigationPolice have now registered a formal case against Kasim and initiated a detailed investigation. Intelligence agencies have also stepped in to determine whether this incident was part of a larger conspiracy or simply a case of personal religious transformation. Authorities are probing his background and motives to find out if he was working alone or if there’s more to the story.
According to police officials, the truth could have surfaced earlier if someone had checked his documents when he first arrived at the temple. The case has now sparked widespread discussion about temple security, religious conversions, and identity verification protocols in rural India.
