Experts say that this cancer is no longer limited to the elderly, but young people in the age group of 30-40 years are also falling prey to it in large numbers.
What is head and neck cancer?
Head and neck cancer is a group of many types of cancer that affects a person's mouth, tongue, throat, tonsils, nose, ears, and upper parts of the neck. Its most common symptoms are a prolonged sore throat, difficulty eating, ulcers in the mouth that do not heal, and difficulty speaking or hearing.
Know its main symptoms
- Persistent sore throat or feeling of something stuck
- Difficulty swallowing food
- Wounds on the mouth or tongue that do not heal for a long time
- Persistent pain in the neck, face, or head
- Bleeding from the nose or blood in the cough
- Change in voice or difficulty in speaking
- White or red spots on the gums
How to prevent it?
Experts believe that this cancer can be prevented if some important measures are taken:
- Completely refrain from tobacco and gutkha
- Consume alcohol in limited or no quantity
- Get the HPV vaccination done
- Take special care of oral hygiene
- Get oral cancer checked from time to time
- Avoid staying in the sun or pollution for a long time
Treatment is possible if diagnosed on time
Doctors say that if head and neck cancer is detected on time, then treatment is completely possible. The success rate of treatment in the initial stage is up to 70-80%.
