Benjamin Sesko statement released by RB Leipzig after Man Utd make bid

Benjamin Sesko is on the brink of leaving RB Leipzig, with Manchester United emerging as the frontrunners for his signature despite interest from Newcastle. The Red Devils have tabled a £65.3million (€75m) bid plus an additional £8.7m (€10m) in add-ons to secure the services of Sesko. Although Newcastle have presented a more attractive offer to Leipzig, it's believed that Sesko's preference will play a crucial role in his decision.

Sesko has been training separately from the rest of the Leipzig squad this week amid ongoing negotiations regarding his future, and the club confirmed on Wednesday morning that the 22-year-old continues to train alone.

Leipzig released a brief update stating: "Wednesday squad update: Andrija Maksimovic is back in Leipzig, but is training individually today. Benjamin Sesko and Lukas Klostermann are also working individually."

With United closing in on Sesko, Rasmus Hojlund's position at Old Trafford appears increasingly precarious. Despite Hojlund's determination to stay and compete for his place, United seem willing to accept a loss on his sale this summer.

The MEN reported on Wednesday that Hojlund is coming to terms with the likelihood of being edged out by United should Sesko's transfer go through.

During a discussion about his future in the US, Hojlund stated: "I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens. I'm still very young. I think people forget that sometimes. I'm only 22.

"Obviously, not every striker is scoring 100 goals at the age of 22 (like Erling Haaland). But I've learned a lot, I think you can see in my game. I'm starting to develop and become even better in the basics.

"Now it's just about for me to sharpen myself and I've done very well in the pre-season so far. Just focusing on continuing that.

"Competition is fine with me. It sharpens me. I'm more than ready. I'm feeling sharp, so I'm welcoming everything that comes. I think it's good with competition and it only sharpens the team."

United have splurged a whopping £127.5million on Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo this summer, and sealing the deal for Sesko would catapult their expenditure towards the staggering £200m threshold.

Should the Sesko signing get the green light, Ruben Amorim will have completely revamped his frontline in just one transfer window, following a campaign where United's goal tally in the Premier League stood at a mere 44.

Moreover, United are keen to bolster their midfield ranks before the summer transfer window slams shut.
