As the weekend approaches, many will be taking the time to head out for some , but one store has announced a 24-hour closure that will affect customers over the break. Dobbies will close its doors across all locations in England, Wales and Northern Ireland this Easter Sunday, though Scottish stores will remain open.
With 60 stores across the UK, it is likely many will see their local garden centre shut on Sunday, right as spring is ushered in. As a nation, we have enjoyed rising temperatures in recent weeks after a long winter, which many might see as the perfect time to get in the garden and freshen things up. But just like supermarkets at this time of year, Dobbies will close its doors for the big day, as will other stores including B&Q and Homebase.
Noted by Prima magazine as "one of the best garden centres for families to enjoy", Dobbies boasts soft play options and cafes which may be busier when locations do open over the weekend.
Hours may vary depending on location, but the brand has a store locator and opening hours on their site for interested shoppers.
In general, Dobbies locations will be open from 9am to 6pm on Good Friday, Saturday and Easter Monday, so there is plenty of opportunity to stock up and get gardening over the weekend despite the Sunday closures.
It is common to see retailers change their opening hours on holiday weekends, as they give both customers and staff a rest.
Laws also apply to larger stores opening on Sundays throughout the year, while any shop bigger than 280 square metres must close on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day in England and Wales.
During the rest of the year, larger shops are permitted to open for six consecutive hours only, between 10am and 6pm.
A spokesperson for Dobbies confirmed to that all stores would operate normal trading hours on Good Friday, Saturday and Easter Monday.
Their statement said: "All stores are closed Easter Sunday apart from Scottish stores which are open from 9am-6pm."
Other brands set to close over Easter include Aldi's branches, which will close on Easter Sunday in England and Wales but remain open in Scotland.
Tesco will close 800 locations on Sunday but keep Metro and Express stores open, while Scottish stores will be open for business during normal trading hours.
DIY giant B&Q will close on Easter Sunday but will operature Easter opening hours of 7am until 8pm on Friday, Saturday on Monday. However, it's a good idea to check your individual store before setting off.
