Four people have been injured in a car ramming and knife attack at a synagogue in Manchester, police have confirmed. Armed police shot the suspected knifeman during the incident on Middleton Road, near the Heaton Park synagogue in Crumpsall, this morning. Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham said it's believed the offender was dead.
The incident occurred on the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur. Greater Manchester Police confirmed the suspect was shot and did not gain access to the building. Police were called at 9.31am by a member of the public who "witnessed a car being driven towards members of the public and one man had been stabbed," cops said in a statement. Paramedics arrived at the scene at 9.41am. Police have not ruled out terrorism as a motivation for the attack.
