Meghan Markle's telling shift away from 'trophy wife' role explained

A top body language expert has explored exactly how Meghan Markle changed after her two marriages, first to Trevor Engelson and later to Prince Harry. The Duchess of Sussex was married to the American film producer from 2011 until 2014.

Two years later, she met Prince Harry and the pair tied the knot in 2018. Now, an expert has examined on how Meghan changed between her two marriages and how she has become the woman we know today.

Leading body language commentator Judi James claimed that the Duchess appears to have had a "total emotional re-think and body language reset," which is how she appears to act now.

She told the Daily Mail: "Meghan's 'before and after' body language signals as a wife suggest she came out of her marriage to Trevor with a strong plan in terms of how to make a second marriage work. Her whole presentation and 'brand' as a wife seems to have changed."

Ms James then added that Meghan appeared to adopt the character of a "trophy wife" with Mr Engelson, whereas now she boasts Harry as the "trophy husband".

She explained: "Trevor appears to be the main man and most important character in terms of group poses. But with Harry, there are signals of new confidence and equal status which have tilted with time into Meghan's favour."

Ms James went on: "If she was once the trophy wife, she now seems to display Harry and boast about him like the trophy husband.

"He is her 'beau' and her 'fox' [echoing Meghan's comments made recently about Harry on her social media], with emphasis on his looks rather than hers."

Ms James claimed that Meghan now appears to be "more in charge" and her body language with Prince Harry during joint engagements suggests that "she has always felt more confident about seeing her marriage to him as one for life".

She concluded: "Meghan's attachment rituals with Harry are industrial-strength, suggesting she is now a keeper and that she has formed a confident, life-long partnership."
