This Saturday night promises to be a delightful one as you snuggle up on the settee and enjoy a timeless classic on ITV.
Ghostbusters is scheduled to grace your screens tonight, perfectly timed for the Halloween weekend. Whether you're a seasoned fan looking to take a trip down memory lane or planning to introduce the family to this iconic film, it's an ideal crowd-pleaser for all ages.
Originally released in 1984, the film boasts an impressive ensemble cast of Hollywood greats, including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis, who portray three quirky parapsychologists. Their characters, Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Egon Spengler, after probing too deeply into the enigmatic paranormal activity at their university, find themselves compelled to abandon their jobs.
It's at this point they band together to form their very own Ghostbusters team, battling ghosts across New York City. As it happens, a potent entity has been targeting busy areas of the city and taking possession of two ordinary citizens.
For the first time in their relentless pursuit, they are onto something significant and must devise a way to face this malevolent force. Viewers sit on tenterhooks as they question just how much the Ghostbusters can achieve as a team to defeat the shape-shifting demon of their dreams - or nightmares, reports the Mirror.
The film also features Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis, Ernie Hudson and one of the all-time great bad guys - William Atherton.
A Rotten Tomatoes review says: "This is a film that quite literally helped invent a whole new genre for comedy; it never took itself too seriously and always was just something easy to watch.
"The cast are amazing; the characters are better. This is the kind of thing that could never be remade (please stop trying) and will never ever be swayed from the top ten greatest movies of all time."
Upon its initial release in the 1980s, the family-oriented picture swiftly garnered widespread critical praise and achieved remarkable box office performance. The film generated approximately $282million in global revenue during its theatrical run, while receiving considerable acclaim for its innovative blending of genres.
Another viewer wrote: "Ghostbusters was once again an amazing tale of four brave men who battle ghosts in New York City. Nothing is more mesmerising than how good overcomes evil and wins the day. Sigourney Weaver is at her tantalising best, and Rick Moranis lends a comic flair. I highly recommend this movie for all ages."
Audiences continue to celebrate the ensemble cast decades after the film's debut.
One viewer wrote: "This film still holds up after all these years! I was waiting and still got a little jolt at the first ghost they encountered, screaming back at them. The cast is hilarious, especially Bill Murray. His delivery and wit are superb."
For a perfect cosy night in, tune into ITV2 this Saturday at 7.15pm to catch Ghostbusters. If you're not around, don't worry; the spooky film is available for rent on both Amazon Prime and Apple TV.
