A young British man has tragically died after suffering a severe allergic reaction while travelling in Argentina with his girlfriend. Doctors battled for a week to save the life of Harry James Kitto, 24, but he died on Friday, surrounded by his family. A fundraiser has since been set up in his name to cover the cost of a funeral and returning his body home to Cornwall.
It has currently raised over £54,000 at the time of writing. Any money left over will be donated to the Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, who helped the family during this difficult time. Harry's family say their "hearts are broken beyond words", but praised the doctors for their efforts in trying to save him.
The fundraiser reads: "Our beautiful, brilliant boy Harry Kitto has been fighting for his life in Buenos Aires, Argentina, after suffering a catastrophic allergic reaction while travelling with his immensely strong, courageous, and brave girlfriend, Naomi.
"For over a week, he showed extraordinary strength and determination - the same strength that made everyone who knew him so proud.
"Despite the doctors' tireless efforts and Harry's incredible fight, the medical team confirmed that Harry was brain dead and there was nothing they could do. Harry passed quietly with his family around him. Our hearts are broken beyond words."
Harry's family is now asking for help with the "painful task" of bringing him home to be "surrounded by the people who love him most".
They said: "Harry was 24 years old - kind, adventurous, funny, and full of life. He had been travelling through South America and was just days away from returning home when tragedy struck.
"We are now facing the painful task no family should ever face: bringing him home.
"The funds raised will go towards repatriating Harry's body from Buenos Aires to Cornwall, so that he can be laid to rest surrounded by the people who love him most."
