Aizawl: Assam Rifles personnel conducted two distinct operations in Mizoram, resulting in the seizure of explosives and narcotics, and the arrest of two persons, including a Myanmar national, during the weekend.
The authorities identified the suspect as Vanlalmara (42), whose father resides in Tahan, Myanmar.
On April 6, acting upon intelligence about arms and explosives movement near Niawhtlang village in Mizoram's southern Saiha district along the Myanmar border, Assam Rifles personnel initiated an operation. They detained one person and discovered explosives, including 122 detonators, 94 gelatin sticks, eight metres of safety fuse, one .12 bore rifle, and ammunition. The suspect and seized items were transferred to Mizoram Police for further inquiry.
In another operation on April 5, Assam Rifles collaborated with Police personnel at Zokhawthar village in Champhai district near the Myanmar border. They arrested a Myanmar national and seized heroin valued at Rs 1.77 crore near the Melbuk village crossing point 'Thingluangkai', according to the paramilitary force's Monday press statement.
Following specific intelligence, AR troops set up an ambush and intercepted an individual who had crossed the border river Tiau illegally from Myanmar. A search in the presence of police personnel and independent witnesses revealed 20 hawngs of heroin.
