Kochi: The IMD has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall for Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram and Wayanad on Sunday. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds reaching 30-40 km/h are very likely to occur at one or two places over Kerala on Sunday.
According to the 24-hour rainfall recorded on Saturday, Konni recorded 7cm. Alathur, Vadakara and Malampuzha Dam recorded 6cm, while Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad, Ottappalam, Mannarkkad, Pirappancode and Thattathumala received 5cm.
While there was no large change in temperatures in the state, Vellanikkara recorded the highest maximum temperature of 36.5°C.
The IMD said cyclonic circulation over South Andaman and its neighbourhood now lies over the southeast Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood. A north-south trough runs from north Madhya Maharashtra to north Tamil Nadu across Interior Karnataka. The upper air cyclonic circulation over south Tamil Nadu and its neighbourhood became less marked.
There is a warning for fishermen going to outer seas. Squally weather with wind speeds of 35-45 km/h, gusting to 55 km/h, is likely to prevail over the Andaman Sea.
INCOIS issued a swell surge alert for the coast of Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram until Sunday. Swell waves in the range of 15.0-18.0 seconds period with 0.9-1.0m height are forecast until 11:30 hours on Sunday. It advised that there is a possibility of surging waves and boats should ply with utmost vigilance and recreation should be undertaken with due care.
