NEW DELHI: Chaos erupted on an IndiGo flight on Friday after a flyer slapped a fellow passenger mid-air, who was on the aisle. Reacting to the incident that occurred on flight 6E138 from Mumbai to Kolkata, the airline company strongly condemned it.

A video is doing rounds on social media, where a passenger sitting in his seat suddenly slapped another passenger. The flyer, who was hit, cried and moved away from the spot. Amid this, the crew members were seen making efforts to cool down the heated moment. Another passenger onboard was heard asking, "Why did you slap him?" and that he does not have any right to hit anybody.

The person who was hit was having a panic attack, said a passenger in the video.

What triggered the person to hit another man is not immediately known.

Taking cognisance of the video, IndiGo said that such unruly behaviour is completely unacceptable.

"We are aware of an incident involving a physical altercation on board one of our flights. Such unruly behaviour is completely unacceptable and we strongly condemn any actions that compromise the safety and dignity of our passengers and crew," IndiGo said in a post on X.

"Our crew acted in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures. The individual involved was identified as unruly and handed over to the security authorities upon arrival. All appropriate regulatory agencies have been duly informed, in line with protocol," it added.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) took custody of the accused at the Kolkata airport.
