NEW DELHI: US Vice President JD Vance , second lady Usha along with their children paid a visit to Akshardham Temple in the national capital on Monday.
Vance, along with his Indian-origin wife Usha Chilukuri and their children Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel—each were dressed in traditional Indian clothing—posed for photographers in front of the temple’s grand facade.
He also penned a message expressing gratitude for welcoming his family at the temple. "Thank you all so much for your hospitality and kindness in welcoming me and my family to this beautiful place. It is a great credit to India that you built a beautiful temple with precision and care. Our kids in particular loved it. God Bless," he said.
Following this, they also visited Central Cottage Industries Emporium in Janpath.
Talking about his experience of meeting the Vance family, store manager Vinay Agrawal said, "We are very thrilled and happy that, along with the family, they visited here. They bought some papier-mâché items, small gift items for the kids and some brass items... They visited all the counters in the showroom. Central Cotton Industry is one of the temples of art and craft. It is not an ordinary shop. Central Cotton Industry is a very big organisation in Asia and deals with hand-to-man handicrafts. She (Usha Vance) really liked the art and craft..."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to host a dinner for the Vance family following official talks.
The US vice president is on a four-day visit to India, joined by a delegation of high-ranking US government officials. His itinerary also includes stops in Jaipur and Agra.
This marks his first visit to India, taking place just weeks after US President Donald Trump announced—and subsequently paused—a broad tariff regime affecting around 60 countries, including India.
