As the Blue Origin capsule touched down in the Texas desert on Monday, Jeff Bezos rushed forward to greet his fiance, Lauren Sanchez , who had just completed a historic flight.

Bezos however, slipped and fell face-first—a moment that played out live across the world, before he opened the capsule’s hatch, and embraced Sánchez.

Lauren Sanchez, visibly emotional, was welcomed with cheers and hugs from her family and fellow crew members. “I can’t put it into words. We got to see the Moon,” she said tearfully. “The Earth looked so quiet… I don’t think you could describe it.”

Bezos, who once flew the first human mission of Blue Origin himself, reportedly called the experience life-changing and wanted Sanchez to go through it.

This flight, dubbed NS-31, was the first all-female crewed mission by Blue Origin and the first of its kind since Valentina Tereshkova’s solo spaceflight in 1963. Joining Sanchez were singer Katy Perry , journalist Gayle King, civil rights advocate Amanda Nguyen, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, and producer Kerianne Flynn.

They travelled about 62 miles above Earth—crossing the Kármán Line, which marks the beginning of outer space. The mission lasted 11 minutes.
